New Clinical IT System for GP Practices
Your GP practice is preparing to move to a new clinical IT system.
This national change will help support a modern GP service across Scotland.
Why is the change happening?
GP practices across Scotland currently use different clinical IT systems. Moving to a common clinical IT system supports the Scottish Government's vision for modern, sustainable, and digitally enabled primary care.
The move will:
- Create greater consistency across GP services
- Improve resilience and future support for practices
- Enable enhanced digital developments in the future
- Support staff who move between practices and health board areas
- Simplify training and system support.
As part of the migration process, systems and functions will be affected for up to three working days before the actual changeover takes place.
During this period and throughout the changeover there may be a period of limited or reduced service as staff adapt to the new system.
Whilst every effort will be made to minimise disruption, the transition period could last for two to three months.
The changeover to the new clinical IT system within General Practices across East Dunbartonshire are scheduled to commence week beginning 14 September and will continue until the start of 2027. We ask for your patience and understanding while the change is happening and allow staff to become familiar with the new system and ways of working.
Practices will have limited access to their systems three days prior to the changeover. Patients are encouraged to check when their GP practice is due to migrate and, where possible, ensure that any repeat prescriptions required during this period are ordered in advance to help avoid potential delays.

Update 14 September
The new General Practice Clinical IT System migrations begin this week in East Dunbartonshire
This week, three General Practices in East Dunbartonshire are moving to a new clinical IT system as part of a national programme to modernise GP services across Scotland.
Practices migrating this week are:
- Springfield Medical Practice – 14 September
- Southbank Surgery – 14 September
- Lennoxtown Medical Practice – 15 September.
During the changeover, patients may experience some temporary disruption, including reduced appointment availability and delays with some non-urgent requests as staff become familiar with the new system.
If you need repeat medication, please order your prescription in advance where possible to help avoid any delays.
