All social workers and healthcare professionals are required to maintain registration with their relevant independent professional regulatory body. Social Workers and relevant social care staff are regulated by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC); Doctors by the General Medical Council (GMC); Nurses and Midwives by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC); Allied Health Professionals by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC); and Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). These regulators are independently overseen by the Professional Standards Authority.

The HSCP monitors compliance with professional registration requirements and ensures that appropriate appraisal and professional development processes are in place. To find out more, or to verify an individual practitioner’s registration status, please visit the relevant regulator’s website.
